Shorts Weather

A Picture-Perfect Entrepreneur: Is Photography a “Real” Business? (with Katie Clark)

Episode Summary

Katie Clark and I dive into starting a photography business, photography in our society, and being the most authentic version of yourself.

Episode Notes

Katie Clark is no stranger to the common perception that being a photographer “isn’t a real job”. In today’s episode of Shorts Weather, Katie and I sit down to chat about how she started her photography business, Katie Decker Photography, and what it takes to be a photographer from skills to equipment and everything in between. We also cover the weight that photography carries in our society and the value we place on photography when talking about our own identities. Finally, we both reflect on our time in college, recounting some of our (not so wild) stories and discussing the importance of being your authentic self.

Katie Clark is an Iowa-based wedding and portrait photographer who’s captured hundreds of smiling, midwest faces through her business, Katie Decker Photography. After graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in agricultural communications, Katie worked in corporate marketing before pursuing her photography business and other creative ventures full-time. She’s a midwestern entrepreneur, a talented creative, and one of my best friends so there are plenty of laughs in this episode!
